Orange Conference Comes to The Bahamas...Kinda

If you have been a follower of this blog for any amount of time you would have realized that I really love ORANGE

Orange not as in the colour rather the Comprehensive Family Life Ministry Strategy/Curriculum.

Check out more on ORANGE here:

Every year the people who bring you ORANGE have a huge conference and guess what is called?  Yup, you guess it The Orange Conference.  I was so happy to get to go to #OC16 in April after missing the previous year. So much Fun and Learning!  It was an awesome blessing to get to OC16 this year by the way. Check that Story here: I am on my way to Orange Conference 2016!

So here is the thing, Orange Conference is pretty much AWESOME in every way.  You get so much from it!  However, what do you do in between til the next conference? Well you can attend Orange Tours. However, The Bahamas isn't one of the tour stops for OT16.  Well that doesn't stop us here.

Bahamas Harvest Church has been using the Orange Strategy and Curriculum for a number of years.  This has proven to be a great move for the Family Life Department as it allows for the harmonization of the ministry as they minister to toddlers straight up to college age young adults.  By the way, the ministry laborers make it a point to go to the Orange Conference every year to enhance their knowledge and stay sharp. Also, they have special workshops for the team which also helps those who may not have had the opportunity to go to the main conference to get the great training.

Well this year Adam Duckworth, joined us at Bahamas Harvest Church for the Orange Workshop.  Adam is the Lead Communicator at Downtown Harbor Church in Fort Lauderdale, FL, the author of "Not Normal - 7 Quirks of Incredible Volunteers" and a communicator at Orange.  So he is amply qualified.

The Orange Workshop weekend began on Friday night, as Bahamas Harvest Church Family Life Ministry kicked of the night with a FX presentation.  FX is short for Family Experience which gives a glimpse of what will be taught that month in Children's Ministry. Afterwards, Pastor Mario taught a moving message called "It's Just A Phase"(Check out the video).  This message was so thought provoking.  I left challenged to engage every step of the way in the lives of my daughters and the young people I come into contact with. Lastly, Adam taught on "Thinking Orange".  He broke down the 5 gauges of the Orange Strategy based on the book "Think Orange".  Well by the misfortune of using technology sometime you lose things and I lost all my notes from this book.  However, you can find more info from the book by getting it. Buy Think Orange book here.

On Saturday, we spent time in a general session afterwards we broke up in groups.  We engaged in another great time as well in order to get equipped for ministry in Family Life. Adam kicked off the day with a teaching/training for volunteers.

Volunteers were challenged to be "Not Normal" based on the main points from the book that he co-authored "Not Normal: 7 quirks of Incredible Volunteers".  I liked the term "quirks" cause it just sounds weird, kinda like volunteers who show up week after week to go beyond themselves to minister to children and teenagers.  This is weird when the world says "Me first, others second."

Thankfully for this session managed to still have the notes for. Yippee!!!

Check them out here on Evernote: Adam Duckworth "Not Normal" at Bahamas Harvest Church.

This pretty much wrapped up The Orange Workshop weekend at Bahamas Harvest Church.  As I reflect on all that we discussed, I realized more and more why we have to be so intentional about ministry to children and youth. Its about introducing children to Jesus, who has really come to give us all more than we can ever think.  It takes a person showing up every week and being there on Monday to help a child to know that Jesus loves them and has a great plan for their lives no matter what they are going through right now. We have to be so intentional because really we never know how much we investing in today can have a lasting influence on a better tomorrow. I know I want to have a better tomorrow, don't you?
Some how invest in the next generation today!

INTRODUCING, The "Sweetly Saved" Summer line #iamsweetlysaved #sweetlysaved

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, I would like to introduce to you

You might be wondering what is that exactly. Well let me break it down for you exactly. lol

I have this thing over the years based on a concept about how a person who is "sweetly saved" would view life or the world around them.  Its wrapped the premise that this person would see some biblical truth/ideology/principle etc etc in nearly everything.

Well a few months ago, a friend of mine, Shaquille "Young Rev' Hanna, who is the CEO of God Squad Universal approached me on a concept of capturing the "sweetness" of being sweetly saved for designs for t-shirts.  This was something I wanted to do for months just didn't really know the how. So naturally it would make sense for me to work with God Squad to bring this idea to life.  You see God Squad Universal is a "A Kingdom Lifestyle Brand devoted to changing the culture."  So I felt this could work!

Immediately, we started churning out ideas and came up with some great concepts.  He passed them on to his graphics guy and then the magic happened.

Here are two initial designs that we came up with:

Its so exciting to be rolling these designs out and I feel like it will only add to the understanding that to know Jesus is a "Sweet" Deal.  I plan on creating a bunch of #iamsweetlysaved video to add the concept.

Check out the first one here:

10 signs you know you are a Youth Director in The Bahamas

10. Your official title is Youth Director / Coordinator / Leader because "Youth Pastor" hasn't really caught on yet.

9.  You get invited to school assemblies regularly.

8.  You are an expert at making Kool-Aid.

7.  The people at the Pizza place nearest to your church know you by name and have offered you a standing appointment on Friday nights or whenever you have youth meeting.

6.   You learn how to be versatile when it comes to meeting with your youth ministry because you don't have an official youth room. So if it means using the church's parking lot, or the church's hall or even under a tree, you make it work!

5.   At Lock-ins, You are an expert at staying up all night and while doubling as a security guard.

4.   Budgets are like unicorns.  If you catch one, don't let it go otherwise, it might become a
figment of your imagination.

3.   The easiest volunteer staff to recruit is usually those who recently "graduated" from the youth ministry but they suffer from the Peter Pan syndrome.  They want to be "youths" forever.

2.   You become a social media ninja; able to watch the posts of your students/youth without being caught with the dreaded screen shot.

1.   You are the resident guru / counselor / listener of boyfriend and girlfriend drama.

Bonus point: You use the word "Youths" often. eg
1. We are having youths tonight!
2. "Are there any youths in the hooooouuuusssee?!"

Thanks for reading.  What to do you think? Are there any other signs you can think about?

And the Winner is......

Well by now you know that I am going to Orange Conference 2016 (#OC16).
If you didn't know let me help.....I AM SOOO EXCITED!

The surprises do not just end there though.  There is more.

So when I found out that I had won the XP3 students video contest, the XP3 team had set up a video chat for later in the week so I can speak with their team.  I am thinking that they wanted to talk about ministry here is The Bahamas.  Boy was I wrong!!!

Well they did want to know a little about that but also wanted to do something else.

Check out the pic below.  That's me on the screen that everyone is looking at ;-)

******************DRUM-ROLL PLEASE******************

This great team offered to take care of all my expenses as it related to me getting to #OC16!!!

PLUS...They gave me another free Ticket for anyone I choose to attend the conference.

Talk about GENEROUS!!!

I was beside myself with excitement and felt so honoured.  You see this was the answer to a prayer.  The reality was that though I had won the free ticket before, I had no clue how I was going to make the journey to Orange Conference 2016 happen. Then God did what God does best, work miracles. God is soooo good!

In the same way,  I had gotten a call from some friends from The Bahamas who were going to OC16 as well.  They heard what had happened and offered to let me roll with them for the week.  My JoY-Meter was over the top!!!

I was now officially on my way to Orange Conference 2016!

I am on my way to Orange Conference 2016!

So it all began with this post that was in the XP3 students group for Orange.

The XP3 team sends out this video challenge to all of their partners to submit a video to tell them why they should go to Orange Conference for free.  Well of course,  this was worth it to enter.  I had to try so I got busy.

Check out my submission here:

I suffer from Orange-itis!  Click on pic below

Well my video went on to win.  There was no competition.  LOL That is not to sound arrogant...There was literally no competition.  Nevertheless, my submission was GREAT!

I am so ready for Orange Conference 2016.  I remember when this was only a dream last year to go to OC15 but now I get to make it happen and I get to go to OC16.  Thank God.
